I don’t know if I’m going through an “always hungry” phase, or I’m just looking for additional things to do, but there’s been a lot of cooking happening in my kitchen lately–more than usual. Today I had an immense craving for some homemade French bread pizza, so of course, I had to make it, and boy was it good!
Many times when I go out for pizza, I’m disappointed with the sauce. Either it’s too bitter or has no taste whatsoever, which in my opinion ruins the entire pizza.
If you’re a pizza lover and need a quick idea for lunch or dinner, you have to try this recipe. Now, I will admit that this isn’t the healthiest dish, but we all deserve a cheat day every now and then, right?
French Bread Pizza
1 French Bread sliced in half (12 inches)
3/4 cup of Classico Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce
1/2 cup of pepperoni slices
1/2 cup slices of mushroom
1/2 cup slices of green bell pepper
1 tablespoon of butter cut into four slices
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of sugar (optional)
Red pepper (optional)
Preheat the oven to 450F. Combine tomato sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder and sugar in a small saucepan. Heat on medium for about 5 minutes or until it starts to bubble, stirring occasionally. Place the bread on an aluminum foil-lined cookie sheet and layer the butter slices evenly on the length of it. Layer half of the tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni, the rest of the sauce, then the rest of the toppings.
Bake on the middle rack for 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with red pepper, cut in half, and enjoy!
Note: This recipe is totally customizable. Feel free to add any toppings you like, what I have listed just happens to be my favorite combination. Also, use whatever sauce you prefer. Classico is one of my favorites.
One half of this pizza filled me up. Should you need to make the other half of the French bread, double the ingredients.
All the best, always.
